The Pilot Who Writes Books

During the years I spent in the cockpits of various aircraft, I had the opportunity to see, hear, and experience a lot and, above all, to meet many interesting people.

On never-ending night flights or relaxed evenings in restaurants and bars in Los Angeles, Cape Town, Tokyo, or Hong Kong, we shared stories with each other.

From our lives, or stories from the lives of friends and colleagues. There were many funny stories, many sad ones, and plenty that — put mildly — were slightly exaggerated. The best experiences and stories I’ve recounted in my books.

Der lange Weg nach vorne links

“The Long Way to the Front Left” is a humorous collection of thoughts, impressions, and experiences from various areas of aviation. The individual episodes cover sport flying, executive and business aviation, as well as everyday life at a major airline. Anyone looking for a lighthearted, behind-the-scenes look at aviation will surely enjoy this book!

Piloten gibt’s wie Sand am Meer

Aviation offers far more variations of the pilot’s life than just the world of military pilots and jumbo jet captains. This book is a collection of stories that also cover lesser-known areas of aviation. It explores flight students, sport pilots, business aviators, and commercial airline operations. Just as diverse as the individual pilot roles are the life circumstances that come with them.

Pilots Don’t Just Fall From Heaven

In “Pilots Don’t Just Fall From Heaven”, the reader experiences how to become a pilot – European-style. Based on my pilot training in Germany, I describe the highlights of just what lengths the aviation world goes to, to get pilots into the air- and keep them there. Along the way, the reader learns about flyers and their flying machines, crew personalities, and airline regulations, while simultaneously gaining many surprising insights into the day-to-day life of an airline pilot.

Auch Fliegen will gelernt sein

Every great airline captain started small, and things didn’t always go smoothly. The story, told through text and illustrations, begins with a brief look back at the history of aviation. It then outlines—briefly, or rather “in snapshots”—pilot selection and training. Included are hand-drawn illustrations by Karl-Friedrich Krohn, created during his work as a graphic artist for Deutsche Lufthansa. These drawings still circulate today and have brought much amusement to entire generations of pilots.
